Addition Of A Medicare Outpatient Observation Notice

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) notifies Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) of the addition of a Medicare Outpatient Observation Notice (MOON) to Chapter 30 of Pub. 100-04 to inform all Medicare beneficiaries whether they are outpatients receiving observation services, or inpatients of a hospital or critical access hospital (CAH). CMS specify that the MOON is “information-only” for MACs, but must be observed by hospitals.
