New Medical Genetics and Genomics Codes

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requests Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) utilize a physician specialty code for medical genomics, “Medical Genetics and Genomics (D3)” also adding two more specialty codes, “D1” for Medicare Diabetes Preventive Program suppliers, and “D2 as Restricted Use.” According to CMS rules. Contractors shall utilize PECOS resources in communicating and accomplishing relevant tasks related to these new codes, for example, looking at PECOS records lists and notifying Business Function Leads of any discrepancies.
