Appointing A Fiscal Intermediary Shared System

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requests Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) appoint a Fiscal Intermediary Shared System (FISS) maintainer to analyze the FISS system according to a “golden match” from the Provider Enrollment Chain Ownership System (PECOS) Extract File, which is updated daily. The FISS maintainer shall analyze the internal FISS crosswalk file, to make sure the system matches the current PECOS. MACs can access manual match information from the National Provider Identifier (NPI) contractor.
