Codes and Modifiers Identifying CLIA Waived Tests Approved By FDA

The Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requests Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) utilize codes and modifiers to identify CLIA  waived tests approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Testing these  Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) regulations allows CMS to avoid paying for tests  laboratory tests that are not categorized as waived complexity under CLIA, in facilities with a CLIA certificate of waiver.
